[1618) [CLOUD to CLOUD]

[D. W. Cloud, Near Natchitoches, Louisiana, to I. B. Cloud, December 26, 1835, about going to Texas, stating that "the cause of Philanthropy, of humanity, of Liberty & human happiness throughout the world call loudly on every man who can to aid Texas," and that "if we succeed, the country is ours... our rifles are by our side and choice guns they are."]

Genl. Sam Houston Sir

The first drum that has beat for volunteers in Texas for the Regular Army was on yesterday. It was done by Cpt. Allen & 12 or 14 enlisted. A report has been made & adopted respecting the action of the Army a copy of which will be sent to you. I hope it will meet with your approbation. We are told that a great many volunteers from Georgia & Alabama has landed at the mouth of the Brasos though no written or official recount. I want to obtain your assistance in getting the appointment of Sutler for the Army west of this. Any recommendation from you as to that appointment would have its influence with the Genl. Council If you see proper to do so, I shall consider myself under many obligations, & will receiprocate the favour whenever an apportunity presents itself.

Your friend & obt Sert Wyatt Hanks
