to be subject to the Comdr. in Cheif of the Regular Army, unless he be invited by themselves to their command- Under these stipulations we all Volunteer our services, and our firm resolve is to comply to the utmost of our of our [sic] ability; with the spirit of our compact, founded on the decree above alluded to, but in no case, do we consider ourselves subject to variations or any infringment of our privileges during the terms of our services, nor indeed, cou'd we induce our men under any circumstances, to subject themselves to the Organic laws of the Regular Army, or to serve under any other terms than those under which they have at present Volunteer'd.- All this we request you to make known to the Gen'l Council, from whom we hope protection, & not a curtailment, of express privileges granted to vs by the Gen'l- Convention-

We would beg leave respectfully to petition to your honourable Body for permission to raise two companies of Volunteers to proceed as soon as practicable lo Copano or any point on the River Neces that may be hereafter decided upon by yourselves or the Honourable Commander in Chief your petitioners would also beg leave to say that they are at all times ready and willing to obey any orders that they receive from the Commander in Chief as officers of the regular Army of Texas but as there is at present a great Number of Volunteers who are willing
