multitude. Baker attempted to reply and was hissed, and contemptuously treated, and became completely paralyzed, and like a pitiful Hound puppy crouched and slunk off. Houston made a bold and manly appeal, and in adverting to the down fall of Bexar and the death of Milam he was felicitous quite beyond himself; he arroused the sympathies of the young & aged, and tears by universal consent flowed abundantly from the eyes of all, except perhaps the few Parricidal imps, who abashed and ashamed, sought refuge for their guilty faces-Houston ackowledges that he never in his life, made so happy an effort-Williamson also done himself much credit-for it is said he spoke much lo the purpose, and quite when he was done-The mob chagrined and mortified, threw out many grog shop threats and swore they would attack and drive us vietarmis. Old Pettus and Marlin with a few others talked loud and extended much abuse to individual members of the Council & swore they should never meet in session again &c. Wharton, from information l have received, has changed his mind and has gone on his mission to the U. S. I have issued my proclamation for an election of delegates lo be held on the 1st of Feby to meet in convention al Washington on the 1st of .Mar. Every well wisher of the Country should be vigilant in selecting good men as much must depend on the action of that body-I send you the report of the capitulation & fall of Bexar, it is the official account and will show for itself-No local news of interest-I have in haste given you a helerogenous mass lo digest and make sense of, if possible. IL may however, have one good effect by keeping your mind
