Yours of the 23d by your friend, Mr. Starr, was received. It affords me much pleasure to receive such an acquisition to our sparse population. Similar applications are daily made and I am proud to say frequently of highly respectable character. These acquisitions have a very stimulating effect on me, and will I hope with every liberal minded man of Texas. You wish to be informed respecting the disorganizing meeting &c. Some excitement was created but flowed in the proper channels-the morning effort failed entirely-the insignificant pa.rty with Baker as their barker, rallied in the evening-Wyly Martin in the Chair. Baker spoke at length & was followed by Genl. Houston & williamson with infinite effect-they both received much applause Ly the
