members in the General Conventio•n. I should be gratified to receive from the Council permission to organize two additional municipalities on Red river that the settlers there be fully represented in that Body. It has been truly gratifying to every lover of his Country to hear of the fall of St. Antonio and of its being releaved of the presence of every foreign enemy. Texas stands forth Tis enthralled free & sovereign and can now take her rank among the nations as such and can legitimately make such arrangements with other powers as will secure and perpetuate it. All that is to [be] feared is internal derision arising from the efforts of Speculators who will be uniting in their exertions to get the properties of the Public and colonists in their grasp in this moment of Joy. I will try to forget them for the moment and look only on the bright side of the Picture and think of Texas as it deserves and will be Sovereign Independent and prosperous trusting in provedence for such a happy consurnation.
I remain truly yours John Forbes
