It will not be amiss to state that I served as a Cadet at the U. S. l\'lilitary Academy for two years and that subsequent to that period - (in 1832) I served as aid de camp to Gov. Reynolds of Illinois during the Sac War - but on this point I refer you to the letter from Gen Atkinson. I also send by Col. Fanning letters introducing me to Gen. Houston from citizens of St. Louis.

To his Excellency James W Robinson Lieut Gov. & President of Council Sir.

Permit me lo introduce to your acquaintance Mr. James Clark of Pecan Point Red River and who has been appointed by a Committee of Citizens of that portion of our territory to represent their interest at San Felipe you will find him a very intelligent Gentleman, very conversant with the interest of Red River and Texas generally and truly desirous of promoting the welfare of the Colonists and Country. I had the pleasure of receiving by Capt. Gaines last evening a copy of the resolution for a general convention I am having it printed in hand bill form for the purpose of wide diffusing it among the people and as soon as I receive the Governor's Proclamation I will in accordance with the resolutions post writs of Election to the several Presidents. On account of the increased population of Red River as you will be fully informed by Mr. Clark it would be very desirable to have more than one Municipality in that section I am of opinion three municipalities or Jurisdictions could be formed there and which would entitle them to a representation of six
