[1558] [ALLEN to GENERAL COUNCIL]
lJohn M. Allen lo General Council, December 20, 1835, announcing that he intends lo depart immediately for the army.] [1559] [BRYAN to HOUSTON]
Liberty Texas December 20th 1835
To Major Genl. Sarni. 1-Ioustin Commander in Chief of the regular Army Dear Sir.
There is al this time a Volunteer Company fiting out, and will leave in about a week for the Seat of War, whom I have calculated to accompany. But having been verbally informed that I have a Lieutenants appointment in the Regular Army and not knowing whether or not as such I would be allowed the time that another trip to Bexar would necessarily require, I wish you to inform me of the truth of the Statement by the bearer Wm K Dalton who is employed to bare dispatches weekly between this & San Felipe. - If even I am appointed as above mentioned, if it would not be trespassing too much on the time necessary lo he employed in organising the army, and Bexar has not yet fallen, I would like lo make a short visit to the Volunteer Camp to be with, and share the dangers of a brother who is there, though if I have the honour of an appointment under you, I will hold myself in readiness lo execluve any command directed to me.
·
I am with much esteem Your obliged & humble Srt.
