[3804) [HOUSEMAN to MORGAN J
Macombs Sawmill July 27 1836
Col. James Morgan Sir.
Col. Macomb will some time ago have you informed, that he was aoina to cut on his sawmill boards for the fort at Galveston " " and that the gov't gave him an order to get twenty Mexicans from citizens, where ever he might find them. The citizens generally refuse to give them up and this is the rea·son that the sawmill is not as yet agoing. It being now of great importance lo have the lumber and there being no other way to procure it or to make the mill cutting, I would beg you to send about ten strong and healthy Mexicans up here by the first c~ance. The bearer of this is ordered to go down for the purpose of getting provisions and get a large boat large enough to take them up here and they in that way also come without any extraordinary expence to the govt. ...
Your most obedient serv. Fr. Willm Houseman per Edwd Harcourt Col. and Chief of Eng. T. A.
