To his Excellency D G. Ilurnett President of the Republic of Texas Sir
We wrote you by the Flora sailed a few clays since- The Dekalb leaves this day & has on board a number of volunteers- She is a fine vessel & well calculated for the service she is intended- We have heard nothing of the Govemt vessels since they . left the Balize- We hope the Independence has intercepted some of the vessels bound lo Matamoras with provisions- You will find an excellent article in the True American of yesterday relative to Com. Dallas & the Blockade- We send you a copy of the paper- The Flash will leave in about three days & we shall send by her if she can take it some provisions as we cannot procure a vessel lo go direct to Copano, unless at a high Freight & cash in advance- She is a light draft waler & can proceed from Velasco & join the expedition- One of the Mexican Brigs was lo leave Baltimore about this

I sometime auo received a communication from Mr Joseph 0 Lawrence the proprietor of the Ferry al the junction of Trinity & Old rivers, in which he complains that Capt Logan, the Muster Master of your Municipality had threatened to place some other person at his Ferry. I am very confident Capt. Logan would not willingly do an improper act, but notwithstanding his zeal in the public 8crvice may lead him into error. Thal Ferry belongs lo ~Ir Lawrence until
