Dear Father
I regret very much to inform you of my situation through its not very bad considering a prisoner. I have injoyed good health and in hop that you and my Sister has injoyed the like good blessing. I was ordered by Genl Rusk to Matamoros as commishioner for to exchange prisoners and have not bin permitted to return bu l have bin well treated as prisoners. I don't no how long I will be detained but I am in hops not long as 1 think that there will be an exchange of prisoners before long and as soon as I am released I will come home. I am in hops that you will give yourself no oneasness about me for I do assure you that I am well treated and there you will not let my sister suffer any oneasness about me for I expect she has freled lo much. 1 will be with you soon now don't for all ofr the officers are in favor of releasing of me. I find a number of men hear that I was acquainted with which is verry kin. Dear father I am with out money hear and boarding is very high hear. I wish you to deposit use about five hundred dollars in the bank in New Orleans and in struck for me to draw a draft on him and I can get it cashed hear you can draw on John K. Allen for five hundred also to be deposited at the same place. Mrs. Proctor my land lady is verry kind to us and has treated us well when we was confined she's visited us every day at our quarters and sent us three meales aday pleas present my love to all of my friends and tell them that I shod like to hear from them and kiss my dear sister for me.
