I have at this late hour but a moment to fulfill my promise of sending you a note. I have just seen Mr. Swartwout, who (like myself) feels an in tcrest in the matter under consideration & will conlribute to the object so desirable on all hands, so far as may be in our power. I am authorized by Mr. Swartwout to refer you to him tomorrow morning early before he leaves the city for further information and at the same time to say, that we both think that the sum of 3000 to 3500 $ may be obtained from the friends of Texas towards the objects of Capt I-lure!. This however must be considered a secret or as confidential because it would not do to become public. See Mr. S. and on my return I wiU move in the matter as far as I can, and only regret that I am compelled by absolute engagemenls to leave the city.
