Tow & compelled her lo slop & take the Independence along side- These charges in fact are false & perfectly ridiculous- Your favr ordering the Invincible immediately back reached us just as he was leaving in the Steam Boal lo Join his Vessel al the SW. Pass, lo proceed lo New York- as he departed in the boat we slated, that we should write him by the Steam Boat, the next day & await our order, which he said he would do & we wrote him lo lay his vessel into the S W. Pass, come up to the City in the first Steam Boal, procure provisions & men & proceed with all dispatch lo Velasco-but it appears so soon as he arrived on board his Vessel he set sail, no doubt in pursuit of the Venus as she had sailed only a few hours before- The Mobile also sailed about same time & the accounts sent up by the Pilots at the Balize is that when the Venus was last seen the Invincible was within, half a mile from her & no doubt captured her. That the U. S. Ship so soon as she had conveyed her out of our waters, had Steered off lo the Westward- We only hope she has captured here- It was an impolitic thing at this moment for Captain Brown to have discharged his men as they were shipped for 6 mo & the vessel could have run the time without any repairs, but as they were discharged & sent up we had to pay them off amt to 1,500- If the Vessels want supplies allow them to come to the S. W. Pass, & then provisions can go down, in the Steam Boat- As lo the Brulus we believe she has gone to New York, we seen a teller from Capt Heard stating that he was on his way there & appeared displeased with the Cabinet- Now we are of opinion he has gone there without your instructions or knowledge & in such case should be broke at once, as he may get the Vessel in difficulty in New York- We have written to our agents to take care of her & we hope they may send her immediately back- It would be essential that his discharge should be sent up & forwarded to New York- We paid this day an order on us in favor of Capt Jas. W. Bray of the Schooner Ed. Thompson bound from Havana lo Mobile for $84- It appears he boarded the Schooner & took from her all that he wanted say French & Co. valued at $48 & 2th Segars $36- The Captain remonstrated against it so we are informed that Capt Heard said he might think himself well off- He was about making it public in Mobile that he had been robbed but our friends there put a slop lo it- Heard told him that if he did not take an order on us he would not pay him a cent-
