States will protect them, as they see published in our news papers that such & such Vessels (U. S.) will be off the Bar to convey Vessels to Matamoras & raise the Blockade- We can hardly believe that Com. Dallas would commit himself by attempting such a thing- still he is inimical lo the cause & it was said & published that he would convey any Mexican vessels to their port of Destination- The Schooner Venus (Mexican) with a very valuable cargo on board for Vera Cru~ remained al the S. W. pass until the Concord Sloop of war arrived _there & took her under his protection, but from all we can learn it was only out of our waters & to see that a strict neutralily was observed- The majority of our foreign population is opposed lo your cause & no doubt misrepresentation have been made lo Com. Dallas at Pensacola- It is abou l two weeks ago a publication appeared in the Pensacola Gazelle that one of the Texian armed Vessels had robbed a Mexican Schooner while laying in the River of a great part of her Cargo, being Contraband articles Thal the Independence had fired into the Steam Boal that had the Venus in
