Sir-Having proposed to raise a battalion, to be attached to thecommand of Gen. Thomas Jefferson Chambers of Texas, I am determined, if possible, to effect it. I will therefore say to those, who are still disposed to join me, that I am not at all discouraged by the non-acceptance of Col. Wilson's command. By the Provisional Government of Texas, Gen. T. J Chambers was authorized to raise, arm, equip, provision, and transport, to that Republic an army to consist of 1641 men, rank and file, to be
