The crisis which is about to mature with the coming elections for the first constitutional Executive and Congress must be more important lo the wellfare and National prosperity of Texas than any likely again to happen. If Congress as it is fervently hoped shall assemble under good and wise influence it will sustain with a firm purpose the doings of a just and honest ExecuLive. Thal Executive no matter however honest and just however popular and exalted must necessarily with a nation of people like ours so wise in politicks, consult their will as a physician does the pulse of his patient-The index of that must be the potion a less close would fail of its effect an over dose would nauciale.-The Executive then to be as usef-ull as he ought must go into Office with as kind feelings as possible from all persons and parties, if parties there should be-The good of the nation must be the polar star and personal feelings in the most exalted of the land must be eschuecl. Otherwise there is none exalted. With these [illegible] remarks my Dear Sirs, I have concluded to obtrude a suggestion upon you, with no other apology for so doing, than this, that you must know that all must know, the glory and good of my injured and bleeding country is my mo~ive_. By public approbation & desire, your names are al tlus time the only ones before the nation for the highest office i1_1 her gift. One of you musl be elected. Then if I were General Auslm and the elected, I would offer lo Gov. Smith the place of Secretary of the Treasury because I think that place is heller suited lo him than anx l could offer, and if I were Gov. Smith I would cheerfully accept 11 because I love my Country and in it I might do her good. On the
