Caney Creek 26th August 1836_

To Bailey Hardiman Esq- Seely Treasury Dear Sir

On my vissit to the Army I learned the Particulars of the case of Maj Wm P. Miller-of the Regular Army and unsolicited by him I have been Prompted by the Justice of his case to address you and Hoping through you to make the cabinelt sensible of the claims of this Gentleman upon the Public confidence. Some time Perhaps about the month of December-Maj-Miller presented his Recommendations as a Gentleman (entitled to Every confidence) from Govr. Carroll and many other Distinguished Gentlemen of Tennessee accompanied by a Petition for an appointment in the Legion of Cavalry in which he set forth to the Council his anxiety to Embark in our cause and a willingness to Invest his Little Fortune then small in the cause of Texas to Raise Troops or otherwise If Required By the Government The Council was of opinion that his Recommendations were the most favourable which had been presented by any Foreighner-and commissioned him Majr. of Cavalry he accordingly Recd Orders and lefl Immediately for his Residence and haveing as far as I am Informed complied with all his Engagements with Great promptitude he sailed from N .0. with his command Raised and Fitted out with his own Fui1ds I have no doubt But unfortunately fell into the hands
