Below you have the answers to your several inquiries, they are made up from such information as is in possession of this Department-they are necessarily somewhat imperfect, owing to the recent formation of our Government and the late invasion by the enemy full information has not been received upon all the subjects embraced in your inquiries; but it is believed they will be found nearly correct. Question 1st The amount of Loans and under what authorities they were made. Answer. The amount of Loans is $100.000 made by authority of the late Provisional Government and the present Government Question 2 The debts now due for money loaned the State. Answer. The amount due for money loaned is . . .......... $80.000. Question 3. The amount due by the State for supplies as near as may be. Answer. The amount due for supplies is estimated at $450.000. Question 4th The debt probably due the Navy and unpaid including supposed liabilities for 6 months to come. Answer. Amount due the Navy estimated at $112.000. Expenses for the present Naval force for 6 months to come estimated at $65.000. Question 5. The debt due the army including probable expenses for 6 months to come. Answer. Amount due the Army for pay & clothing estimated at $412.000 Expense for 6 months to come pay & clothing estimated at 210.000
