I have a great desire that the civil authority should rule and govern my disposition is to supporl and uphold it. l therefore trust you will use every exertion so to execute your commission lo bring the offenders if any to justice and if the Court or sheriff should refuse lo act, you have my warrant to summon as many men in Texas as will effect the object. :\Ir. Whiteside of this neiohborhood returned here 0 yesterday, and says it is the intention of the army to march on .\lalamoras. He further reports that it is understood in the Army, that the .\lexican troops have all been withdrawn from that place-. The latter report is probable. The former I do hope is not trur. If the latter is true, I should imagine it lo be a "ruse de Guerre." The troops if withdrawn al all, are doubtless withdrawn with a view lo induce an allack on i\'lalamoras, and if our army should advance upon it, they can easily concentrate a strong_force on thr Rio Grande. al any point above Matamoras, and tf our army look possession of it, pass on lo the east side of it, ma~ch down in th<> rrar of our army, leaving il in a situation, which nothing but a miradc could rr.Lri<>ve it from.
