as you shall have raised a sufficient number of men you will report to the Head Quarters of the Texian Army it is important that you should report as early in the fall as practicable as I have no doubt the campaign will open much earlier than is now anticipated.

The draft which you drew on Colo. Robert Triplett agent for the Republic of Texas in my favor for Five thousand Dollars at four months from the 22d April last, has this day been protested for non-payment-will you be pleased to instruct the present agents here to pay the draft not being drawn on them which is in the hands of Messrs Lambeth & Thompson of this place-The loan on which you drew the draft must now no doubt be received of which you arc better able to know than I am and would be glad for you to drop Messrs Lambeth & Thompson a line stating the time they may expect to receive payment for the Draft · With great regard Yr mo obt St. J. You are required Lo proceed with the bearer Tomas Caro to Tennehaw in pursuit of 17 head of ·cattle which he alledges were stolen from him. Call on the judge of that county and the sheriff also. 1 recommend that such a course should be pursued, as will restore lo Caro his cattle and punish the offender or offenders.
