but thinks he is called Raffall & docs not know al what apothecarys the opium was bought, Further that on receiving the funds from Lisardis he went with Don Gabriel Avelez an examination American Citizen residinu in New Orleans (who is known innocent of the plot) & houuht th~ schooner Passaic for Two thousand five hundred dollars, & !~ad her put in the name of Avelez because he the deponent is not an AmericanCitizen & that the cargo cost Two thousand dollars; that neither the Captain crew, nor Capt Sovereign (alias Portugese Joe) had any participation in the plot,

To Hon. F A Sawyer Secy of War Dear Sir

Capt Wigginton has been ordered to repair lo the United States for the purpose of raising and bringing on Troops lo our assistance in the Fall Captain Wigginton is man of the most respectable character and standing and has already given evidence of his capacity and ability to Serve Texas by bringing on at least men [illegible l and friends in Kentucky are of high standing and influence and with the proper authority from the Government will be able to bring [illegible] and hardy men to the Country who will not only make uood Soldiers but when the War has ended will make good citizens wbhich we shall then need as much as we do Soldiers now Captain Wigginton [illegible] Post of Major and I therefore cheerfully [illegible] him for that approved and will pledge myself that he will do honor to the appointment as will in raising men as in Serving the Country in the field
