Washington, August 23, 1836. The undersigned, acting Secretary of State of the United Gorostiza, envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary of the Mexican republic, in compliance with the request contained in his note of the 10th instant, that it appears from a communication addressed to the undersigned by the Secretary of War, and dated on the 22d instant, that up to that time no communication had been received at the Department from General Gaines, showing that any portion of the force under his command had crossed the Sabine river.
