To the Committee of the Texian Meeting at Bardstown, Kentucky, on the 2d Saturday in July

Gentlemen-The proceedings of a meeting of the citizens of Bardstown, Kentucky, were placed in my hands a few clays since, by Capt. Price, and I avail myself of the first leisure moment to acknowledge them. I have not language lo express my feelings Lo the people of Bardstown and of the United States generally, for the warm interest they have taken in the cause of suffering Texas. Whatever may be our fate they deserve and will receive our eternal gratitude for having abandoned their homes of quiet tranquility to mingle in the bloody conflict of a people contending against Tyranny for the sacred rights of man. We cannot gentlemen offer repose to those who come to our assistance but we can ask them to mingle with us in the Field of Battle, and after our Independence is established, we can ask you to participate with us in the advantages and enjoyments of one of the finest portions of the earth. I cannot permit this occasion to pass by without adverting to a circumstance which does us not only great injury al home-but also in the United Stales.
