[4050) [DRAKE Lo PUBLIC]
Texas I have undertaken to raise a battalion of Light Artillery, lo be composed of one hundred and forty-eight men, with horses, for the Texian army, and to be attached to the Army of Reserve under Gen. Th. Jefferson Chambers, and I expect to get off within the month of September ensuing. Those who may wish to engage in such an enterprize, are requested to call at the Louisville Hotel, where I can be generally seen. I have for some months past had this enterprize in view, but have been restrained from making any publication of my purpose, lest the difficulty of obtaining the means of transportation might prove insurmountable, and therefore create another Sabine disappointment to such persons as I could induce to join me; but that difficulty exists no longer. I am now satisfied that the means will be sppedily obained. Gen. Chambers, in addition to having a full authority from the Government of Texas, to use its name and faith, to enable him to send on his troops, has partiolically determined to offer for sale twenty-fivc thousand acres of his own lands, of known superior quality; his title to which has been pronounced unquestionable, by competent judges. Those lands are offered on terms so favorable, that they will evidently be sold out in a very short time. I am authorized lo make sale of so much of them as will fit out my Battalion. Persons wishing to make a great speculation would do well to call on me. Owing to what is above stated, I have now the pleasure of announcing to such as wish to accompany me, that my determination to go is fixed and unalterable; having commenced operations, all my energies shall be devoted to the accomplishment of the undertaking. Patriotic considerations need not to urged to the generous and chivalric sons of Kentucky. It is enough for them to know that the cause of Texas is the cause of Liberty. Many young men, ardent in that cause, have already enrolled themselves, and I have an agent now travelling in the upper counties of the State to procure the balance of the number required to fill out my command. I expect, therefore, to be ready for departure, quite as soon as I propose. It is thought that this will be a choice squadron,
