Thos B Huling Esqr. Dear Sir
I have written a number of letters Lo you with a few weeks upon the all important subject of the ensuing election and now if you should receive this before the day you will pleas announce Major James Montgomery for vice president if you are not running a candidate for the eastern section, in which case we would go with you if we knew the person-there is but one candidate before the public-Col Lemar whom we cannot support on account of his connection with the Cabinet & Austin faction. Doctor Archer is a candidate for Senator in Brasoria and will not oppose Lemar therefore let us unite on Henry Smith for president & James l\lontgomery for Vice President they will receive almost a unanimous vote in the army. The Mexicans are again collecting their forces at Matamores and I presume will be upon is in Octr or Novr we are doing all we can to sustain the army and will meet them however great their numbers which will not be less than 10 thousand strong when they enter Texas again every thing depends upon the Election of Smith the Great majority of this army will not keep the field under Austin should he be elected president of this you may rest assured for they look upon his election as only a perpetuation of the present Government he being now defacto the head or ruler of the present cabinet and as we are confidently assured that he Austin has brought two or three broken factions to his suport by pledges to appoint Wm Wharton & Judge Roads Fisher (his former enemies) place in his cabinet the first secty of state the 2d secty of the navey l\loseley Baker to be Allorney Gen) & Wm Jack Chief Justice (0 Tempora O l\Jones) put your shoulder Lo the wheel and lift hard-your neighbors in the army are all right Lewis & Jugrahens companys are all with us and so are all from Liberty & Eastern Texas as well as the West.
Cordially yours Henry Millard
