Sir: I have Lhe honor herewith lo lransmil to you a letter from Lhe acling Minisler of Foreign Affairs, and my answer, in reference lo lhe supposed movemenl of General Gaines on Nacogdoches. In lhe absence of instructions from the Department of Stale, [ shall on all occasions avoid entering into a discussion of the boundary question between the country and lhe United Slates. IL affords me satisfaction to be enabled to forward you a pamphlet of General Vicente Filisola, giving a detailed account of the operations of lhe Mexican army against Texas during the last campaign. I have the honor lo be, your obedient servant, Powhatan Ellis. To the Hon. John Forsyth, Secretary of Stale, Washington city.
