New Orleans 14th Augst 1836
To His Excellency David G. Burnet. Dear Sir-
After closing our Lellers & sending them on board the Coln Fannin, the Northern mail arrived bringing Sundry letters for ourselves, one for you and others, which be pleased to find enclosed. Nothing of note from the North a letter written from the Secty of War, at Washington City, to Genl. Gaines, authorising him, that should the Indians appear to make the slightest warlike preparations, immediately to pass the frontiers with his troops, & take possession of Natchidoches, & from the large quantity of munitions of war, now being forwarded lo the Genl. as we have previously mention'd in one of our's, by this same opportunity proves that the U.S. Govert, are determined to enforce the Treaty concerning the Indians- We have received a letter for a Mr. Augustus J Butts, with an enclosure of $50 from his father, Should you know any thing aboul him, or where he is, be pleased to pay, or have paid to him said amt, & draw on us.-Shall again have this pleasure shortly
Respectfully yr Serts. Thomas Toby & Bro pr. J Brent Clark
