To the Hon F. F. Sawyer, Actg Seely of War Dear Sir,

I have the honor to report to you that there is wood preparing on lhe Brazos river for steam Boats, I have also ordered the Asst. Qr Mr at Harrisburg to have one hundred cords provided and placed on the Bank of the San Jacinlo or Buffalo Bayou at some convenienl point for Boats drawing 4 feel water to appr:oach he is ordered lo have a portion of it in readiness in eighl days I have also ordered Qr Mr Lawrence to forward to Copano from Galveslon lransporls for 1400 men and in case Qr Mr Lawrence is not there to carry the order into effect I have ordered Asst Qr Mr Bodman to do so. Had I not better advertise and give a contract of gelling wood lo the lowest bidders as is common in the United States unless lhe articles are wanted before the contract could he let & the wood provided on that Something might be saved by so doing- I would also recommend that a Hospital be established at While Hall for the purpose of having all persons that may be taken sick here, immediately removed there and I would recommend to have a suilable Surgeon appointed for that duly, there are now several persons sick and suffering for want of attendance.

I do hereby certify that the troops of New York, Volunteers under my comd., landed in Matagorda in the month of March past, numbering with Capt. Stuarts comd. one hundred and ten, and were quartered upon the premises and sustained by Col. S. R.
