July 22 1836 to Sep 23 1836 - PTR, Vol 8

It is with reluctance that we consent to dispense with the services of any one member of our little Navy at this juncture, but it seems to be unavoidable in this instance. One capital difficulty presents itself in this matter. We have no Agent in New York and no funds there to defray the expenses of the Vessel.-We have thought you could remedy these defects without much inconvenience. You have a power of· Substitution, and you are doubtless acquainted with some business gentleman in New York, to whom you could safely commit a special Agency. I am fully of opinion that the repairs of the vessel can be accomplished by the Script. If it can not be done directly and specifically, the Script I presume can be sold in New York to an amount adequate to this purpose. You are therefore authorized and requested lo appoint a Sub-Agent in the City of New York, for the purpose of providing for the repairs of the Schooner Invincible, of the Texian Navy, to transmit to said Sub-Agent Script for Texas lands to the amount of Six thousand dollars (6000) and lo authorise him to disburse that amount, or such portion of it as may be necessary in the repairing, and out-fitting of said Schooner. The Invincible is commanded by Capt Jeremiah Brown who is empowered to do all things necessary and proper for him to do, in this matter. Capt Brown will sail from here to-morrow- will touch at the Balise and then proceed on to her port of repairs.- She will probably reach New York before your communications consequent upon this can get there by mail-You will perceive the importance of despatch, in hast-

Your Obt Servt David G. Burnet.
