To his Excellency David G. Burnett President Dr Sir,
By Mr S. M. Williams who reached here a few days since on the Schooner Independence, we were placed in possession your several favors 22 ulto We agree with you that more might be saved by making purchases in the North of Clothing, ammunition &c-and as Mr Williams leaves in a few days, we shall advise our Agent there to make such purchases as he may suggest- For want of funds we cannot furnish the necessary supplies, but we have forwarded to Louisville, N. York & Baltimore, Scrip to the amt of $150,000 and we believe sales can be effected there to place our Agents in funds to execute the orders necessary. Gun carriages are not to be had here & we shall order them fro·m the Eastward. Enclosed we hand you a Bill Lading one Box containing 10 Reams Cap paper 5 Do Legger paper 4 Do Blank Cards 10 Bundles Printing Paper This does not correspond with your order, as we had
previously some paper & stationary anticipating it-
The loaners of the $25,000 have not decided upon what course they will pursue, hut we presume they will decline- We have requested them to call a meeting of the parties & to notify us at once what they intend to do- The reasons assigned by you why the Govt. should not comply with their requisition, corresponding with our views- The Col Fannin leaves in a few days & we shall probably send by her some Coffee and Sugar-as we have a letter from the Army to 17 Ulto & they are in want of both- A few ox Carts may be wanted & we shall send you some for the transportation of provisions- A Brother in Law of Santa Anna is now here & from information we have received his object is to proceed to Texas &
