General Orders. The accompanying proclamation of his excellency the Acting Governor nnd Commander in chief of the Militia of this state, announces to the different corps of Kentucky troops, that a requistion is made on them for a Regiment of Volunteer Mounted Gunman, for the service of the United States, to continue in that service for six months, to be computed from the day of general rendezvous, unless sooner discharged. The Corps and Organization will be as follows: One Regiment of Volunteer Mounted Gunmen, to be composed of ten companies, each company to consist of not more than one hundred nor less than sixty-four rank and file, of able bodied, efficient men, between the ages of eighteen and forty-five years. Permission is given lo each of the Volunteer companies lo elect their own Company Officers, and to prescribe their own uniforms; but the Gov. and commander in chief reserves the right, and will appoint the commanding officer of the detachment, and will order a detail lo be made of the other Field Officers of the Regiment[. J Each volunteer will provide his own clothing, horse, and trappings; provisions, arms, ammunition, camp equipage &c. for active and efficient service, will he furnished by the United Slates. The first Len companies organized and reported lo me in conformity with the above regulations, will be received and constitute the corps; Lo the exclusion of all sub~cc1ucnt applications, an<l the first comp,111)' thus tendered. will have precedence, be entitled lo the right of the Regiment, and its commanding officer will runk all others of equal grad1~.
