Your very interesting letter of the 7th Ultimo came to ha11d this morning. 1 hasten lo thank you for the information it contains. You arc the Boy for me, after all.Give rne tl_!_Cman who can neither ue frigh lened nor purchased. Ah, my dear Col, Your beautiful Texas was in much greater clanger, the day Santa Anna was placed on hoard the Schooner lo take his departure for Vera Cruiz, than she ever was before. Had that conspiracy succeeded, you might have all bid adieu lo independence, for forty millions of Divils could nol have persuaded me for one. And every body else for lhe other, that there had not been foul play, most damnable foul play. Tender hearted chickens! Poor Santa Anna & poor Almonte how hard it is to keep them prisnors!!! And how unjust! Charles King & that Sain l Walsh of the Gazelle in Philada., disbelieve that he has cv<~n done a wrong thing, & so does Joe Cales of the National lntcllegcncr. No dam their bodies, they know as well as you do that he is a Hell•houncl, a Brute, and I pray to Cod thal the 11ex t Jell er l gel from you may bring me lhe news of his death and Almonte also & Cos, Your prisonr. To Hell with lhc whole of them. Decisive measures will give the people here confidence in your Govl. Your late act has done more to stifle the sympathies of the people here, than the loss of ten battles & ten thousand men. Fi<lility & & courage will restore confidence: and, We look lo you for everything. You must not leave the counlry or Yr. command, for any consideration. Your conduct & character are necessary to the success of the Govt. Your absence or resignation would place some poor De,,il in command al Galveston, who would ruin every thing and any body. Therefore hang on, hold on and we will stand by you. There is no doubt hut lhnl old Bridges is :1 d--d rascal But you have Lhc bread & that will do. And you must haven grrat de.ii more of bread before you gel thro with the fight. The Government of Texas must raise money by selling lunds, al a clu:ap rate. We could have raised Lhem !'>00,000 Dolrs if th(~ Conunissioners had been authorized lo pledge lands al 25 cents. But they Imel no power lo do it. Without some such authority, you cannot r:,i~c
