I have not the pleasure of a personal acquaintance with Mr. Bee, but I do not hesitate to recommend him to your parlicular attention as I have been requested to do so by one of our most respectable merchants who has assured me that this letter does no more than justice to Mr. Bee.

I have received your letter of the 21st. ultimo enclosing two letters from you to Commodore Dallas. one of the 8th, and one of the 25th of May last, and an affidavit of Joseph S. Sevey, F. M. Gibson, J. F. Ward, J. G. Dunn and David Howell, of the 16th of May last.- The object of these letters and affidavit is to establish a claim on the part of the Republic of Texas against the Govern• ment of the United States, for damages sustained by the Texian Schooner Invincible in consequence of her capture by the United States sloop of war Warren.- As this Departmenl has no power to acknowledge or reject this claim, I must decline a correspondence upon the subject, and refer you to the State Department to which it more appropriately belongs.- The papers received will be submitted to theStale Depart• ment, if you so direct-
