Dear Sir Mr. G. P. Digges is an express lo Gen. E. P. Gaines on the subject of the Indians and other important mallers. It is very desirable Lhal Gen. Gaines should establish his headquarters at Nacogdoches, and I recommend thal you use your influence lo get him lo do so, and if he could visit this place & give Lhe people here assurances of the good faith of Gen. Santa Anna in these affairs and lrealies he has made with you and with this Government (that is if he was satisfied after seeing Santa Anna) [ think it would have a decisive influence in paving the way to end the war.
