American Indians; their officers are all ,vhite-at Galveston, every Sunday night, they have theatrical performances in the fort' which they are now building They say they are happier here and treated heller Lhan they were in their own country. I believe if they were let run al large they would not raise an arm against Texas. Santa Anna is getting very much alarmed-the soldiers can scarcely get a sight of him. He is afraid some one will pop him -off. He was fired al a few days ago by one of the men through his tent; the ball missed him, but came near pulling an end to his secretary-passing within an inch of his head. I should long ere this have made out to you a detailed official report of my proceedings since 1 took this Command of the Army but my documents io the Cabinet have been so lengthly and so much perplexing bussiness has devolved upon me that I really have not had time to do so al the first moment I can I will do so as soon as J took command of the Army I commenced urging the Government to procure supplies, increase the Regular forces, procure munitions and place the Country in a state of defence warning them all the time of what might he expected of the enemy as soon as they could recover from their defeat. they neglected every thing of the kind and first mounted you & tried to destroy you. finding their efforts unavailing they mounted me and [illegihle) have heen hammering at me and really trying lo break up the Army. they have charged me with being a military usurper and with putting down their civil authority you will hear all the slander they can invent but l have no official out save the solitary one of
