In consequence of the ill health of my children and of the wanl of comfortable accomodalions for my family, I find it necessary to send them to the UniLe<l Stales-Their absence will greatly relieve me from ahslructing cares and enable me Lo devote my time more exclusively to public affairs. The Sending of my family lo Lhc United States is attended with considerable expense-more than l am able to defray-I therefore request you will furnish me one hundred dollars from the public treasury and let that amount be charge lo me-

I enclose you copies of late communications. The enemy is unquestionably advancing upon us. I think the Texians will gen- erally turn out, but there will always Le some to hold back in times that try men's souls. JL was not long since a prevailing idea that the war would nol be renewed within our borders before fall, and in consequence of it the coming of Volunteers was considered unadvisable during the warm weather. But "circumstances alter cases," the war is rcvcwcd and voluutcers are wanted.
