Per Pennsylvania

New Orleans 30th June 1836

James F. Perry Esqr Peach Point near Brazoria

Texas Dr Sir

We refer to the enclosed Copy of our respects of 7th inst., since when we continue deprived of your favors. Jn consequence of a want of foreign vessels in our port we have not of late had much inquiry for Texas Cotton, as American vessels are not permitted to import any but their own Produce in England and France - There is however a purchaser in the market who has looked at your Samples, he offers 16½ Cents and you may consider it sold at that price. The Crops of Tennessee & Alabama are of low quality this year being mostly stained tho of fair staple, there have been some pretty large Sales at 12 a 13 Cents. Our private advices from the Interior of Mexico lead us to conjecture that the people are by no means so very desirous for the Return of Santa Anna as he himself appears to be, tho' their national pride and vanity have been sorely hurt by the defeat of their great Champion. In the Northern States a revolution was talked of. The Government in the City of Mexico was expending its last Energies to get ap another Army, which is to be 15000 strong. It is however not probab)e that they will succeed, at the same time your frontier people will no doubt be exposed to invastions & other annoyances, and it is possible that a serious attack may yet be made of the result of which we cannot however permit ourselves to entertain a doubt.

We remain Your obedt Serv John A. Merle
