To Col. James Morgan Sir
I presume You will have returned to Galveston by this lime and resumed your Command. The limes require that every man be al his post and that he is resolved lo maintain it too. The probability is, from all we learn that the enemy are on their march 8 or 10,000 Strong-but they must be hasty levies, and therefore nol so terrible as their numbers would seem to represent. You have been heretofore requesled to forward all volunteers to Head Quatl~rs as directly as possible. That order you will consider as a standing one during the approaching campaign. J expect to send the Ocean lo you soon after She gets here; provided She can be had. We want all the powder, lead, arms, &c that can be Spared fro.m the lslandl Lo be sent to the army & for the present must make out depot as Matagorda. The medicines lately received must be sent off as soon as possible. They are greatly needed-the army very destitute and have a large sick list. Send them therefore by the very first opportunity, to this place-unless a conveyance offers to send them lo l\fatagorcla where they are wanted. l understand You have a small field piece al the lsland. If it is in condition for field Service it will be more usefuU there than with You. Send it therefore with the arms &c. The Schrs Watchman & Fanny Butler will remain in Your port until further orders- but f ht ir cargoes must be untouched.
Your obi Servi. David G. Burnet
