Mr. David G. Burnet President of Texas Dear Sir

I have been in the army ever since the 5th of March last and has this morning arrived in Columbia came by way of Sanfelipe, vcwing the ashes whare my little cotage stood and my all consumed by the flames also my Stock killed or drove of has reduced me to total indigency being in bad health and 51 years of age renders me incapeable of being in the armey at the present time. The public ferry at this time at Sanfelipc is laying idle and no owner for it and as its, wanting dayly to cross people going to the armey If you will permit me or give me an order lo take the ferry into possession I will keep it in good order and cross all the Volunteers going or returning from the army free without charges. The ferrey is soald every year to the highest bidder so it was this year But the man that bid hur of, keep drunk partley all the time and the ferry was takeing from him so thare no person has any rite or charge of hur at present,
