Executive Deparlmenl Velasco 28th June 1836

To Dr. G. G. Williams Dear Sir

It gives me great pleasure lo acknowledge the liberal donation made by your neighbors and friends lo the cause of Texian Independence. It is the voluntary contribution of philanthropy to the cause of human freedom and happiness, and the best recompense, that I can suggest to you, in the name of a suffering and struggling people, is to be found in the consciousness of having ministered to our wants at a dark and momentous period of our political existence, when the enemy is advancing upon us with increased marchers and aggravated fury. Inasmuch as it is possible that other contributions may be made to the same holy cause, you are hereby authorized, and J do hereby authorize you, in the name of the people of Texas, lo receive any donations in money, provisions, clothing, arms or other munitions of war, that may be presented to you for the use and benefit of the Government of Texas, and you are requested Lo transmit all such donations to Messrs. Thomas Toby & Brolhers New Orleans lo be forwarded to this Government. 1 beg you will accept assurances of my personal esteem and regard.
