with the public creditors lo stop proceedings against the puhlic property. As affairs now stanrl we see no chance or restoring the public faith, except by forwarding us Script, as proposed in our private communication lo the President, under dale of 6th lnsl. if that be done we may be able lo dispose of it, and meet the demands in a short time. Should the Cabinet not conclude upon that measure, some means that your wisdom may suggest must instantly be devised to meet our responsibilities, if you wish to save the country, and protect the character of your Agents from a charge that amounts to liLtle less than swindling. If you do not mean Lo meet our demands the sooner you advise us of it, the better, but we cannot for a moment doubt that you will do us that justice. If we are sacrificed, we shall not be the first by hundreds that have been ruined in the cause of civil Liherty, nor the first, who, under the ldea they could be of no further use, have hcen thrown aside to make way for interested aspirants to reap in security, the harvest, sown amid the whirlwind and the storm. Thus much we have deemed it necessary to write, concious of having done our duty, courting investigation of our conducl-having done more than would have been done by others in the same situation we fearlessly and without hesitation speak as we feel. We expect no other redress for the wrong done us, by tlie Executive than to place us in a situation to meet our responsibilities: that, we have a right to demand, and in honour you cannot refuse it. The day will soon come when the good people of Texas will appreciate our motives and actions. This communication is made with feelings of respect. Should there by any thing offensive, you will impute il to our wounded feelings, and the idea that we have been lightly treated by the Executive, and of course, grant your indt1lgence.
We have the honour lo be &c Yours Vry Respectfully
