Williamsburg June 27, 1836

Dear Sir:

The Company which I spoke of al Portsmouth, thinking that I he war was over had almost determined not to go to Texas, but my own opinion is, that the heaviest hurd then is yet to come, I have taken some measures to induce them lo go. J have proposed to raise one hundred men, and pay their expenses out, and arm them. If I understood you right, the money which I expend in Laking them from Norfolk "wiU he repaid by the Texian Government." that there is a sufficiency of arms at Galveston and that volunteers ,villi be received al head quarters. lf I can get a schooner or small Brigg at Norfolk, al a fair price I think I shall purchase it and if the government can arm it I will put il in service, after carrying oul my men from here. Write me, al length, on the subjects as soon as you gel this. I will gel my compliment of men by the 4th of July and would like lo start by the 20th any other information which you think I may need send il. 1 shall have some of the first young men in the country. If J purchase a vessel I shaU not have funds of my own, with your assurance of the sanction of the government, I will be able lo get the money (write me at Norfolk.) R. Sample, M. D. Hon. S. F.
