Citizens of Lhc red lands! You are looked lo for aid in Lhis second struggle for independence. Your contributions, heretofore, have not been proportionate lo your population. Few of you have participated in the Loils and glory of Lhe strife. Your homes have been exempt from the calamities of war. For that exemption you arc indebted lo Ute gallantry of your more exposed and suffering countrymen. Whatever circumstance may have restrained you before, there can remain no reasons to withhold you now. We know your courage. Your skill in arms is familiar lo us all. Your country requires the immediate exhibition of both- let both be displayed when the gTCat and decisive battle which is pending shaU be fought-and Texas is free, sovereign and independent! Hold not back, l adjure you, by every principle of honor, of gratitude and of patriotism. If any man among you prove recreant now, let him to stigmatized; treat him as an ouleast, and let a nation's contempt rest like a black cloud upon his name. FeUow Citizens, - You are again called upon to shoulder your rifles and repair lo the field to sustain your rights, and avenge the wrongs, insults, and indignities offered to your country, by a faithless, insolent, and sav.ige foe; who, disregarding all honorable principle, have waged a war of extermination against all ages and sexes, and have resorted lo means for the accomplished of their object, alike disgraceful lo men and to nations. They invited you to your present homes, promising you the enjoyment of liberty, and equal laws. But they have sought in all their intercourse \vilh you, to make you the slaves of petty military commandants, dcslilule of reputation, character, or moral honesty. They destroyed the constitution you swore lo support; established in Hs stead a military despotism, ancl have attempted by the strong arm of military power, to make slaves of you.
