on many others-I wish all of my name or connection lo stay in Texas and ahidc the issue be it what it may- Your children oughl to and musl remain where they are in Lexington hut you ought lo be here Bring me a sword. I had several, but in my absence they arc all scallcred-, The cahi11ct have managed to excite popular prejudice against them by entering into any arrangements with Santa Anna- Jt was most unfortunate-those arrangements however were hcgun hy Houston on the battle ground the day after Santa Anna was taken-The cabinet are not lo blame-so much as they have been blamed Texas was saved by the victory of San Jacinto and almost lost by the armistice made in the moment of victory with a prisoner- An immcdil'lte and rapid advance after that victory would have distroyed the whole of the Mexican army- Bul that is passed and ought only to be alluded to now, to draw lessons from experience and not for vituperation-, experience tells us all, stand your ground, fight it out, and trust to no armistice except one of two kinds-a final peace-or death- Farewell Love to cousin Mary and the children Yours most arfeclionalely and truly

Dr Sir,

After rolling al anchor nearly all day I have just landed- My head still has the sea sick motion, so I can say but a few words in reply to your request, in your note to the president, lo give you the news from the U.S. There is a general and pritly universal and ardent interest all over the U.S. in favor of Texas- This feeling pervades both houses of Congress and the cabinet. I believe th.it nothing wns wanting lo procure a recognition of our independence but official manuscript accounts of the battle of San J acinlo and the actual slate of things in Texas-Some proof of our capacity lo sustain ourselves etc. Nothing of the kind was rec'd~nolhing but newspaper accounts had reached there when I left.
