Head Quarters June 26th 1836

Gen T J Rusk

Dear Sir I have been anxious for some days to have some conversation with you hut you are so much engaged every day that I cannot attempt to intrude and therefore have taken the liberty to write whfoh I hope you wilJ excuse. I have been more than anxious to give you a fuU and impartial account of the lour I took after I left Major Smith at Harrisburgh last spring tho I shall not trouble you with an account of it at this time. Suffice it to say it was the most unsuccessful and disagreeable trip I ever took tho as I obeyed the request of the cabinet I have no reflections to cast on myself and if others cast them on one I content myself by knowing my own innocence whatever others may have done I feel myself in no way blameable for- since the news of the detention of Capt. Teal and Capt Gaines by the mexicans arrived I have listened with silence lo all I could hear relative to the probability of the retorn of the mexicans into texas & this morning I am informed that we may expect to have a large mexican force to contend with in the course of the summer and if this be the fact we have little Lime enough to prepare for them. I hope sir you will excuse me for presuming lo suggest any plan lo you hut as il is on
