Natchitoches, 26th June, 1836.
To A.H. Brooks, Esq.,
Dear Sir:-1 have the pleasure lo acknowledge lhe receipt of your esteemed letter of the 30th ult. which did not reach me until last night.-ln answer to your inquiries respecting the fate of your brave and gallant son, John S. Brooks, I can give you no certain information. Major Cook informs me that he saw your son in La Bahia on the 19th of February last. He was then adjutant of the Regiment under Col. Fannin, and continued in that station until the surrender of Col. F. I have no doubt but that he was amongst our unfortunate countTymen who perished al La Bahia-If any information reaches me concerning him or if his papers should be received, they shall be forwarded to you without delay.-

The Sehr Watchman was ordered along side of the Pocket for the purpose of discharging her cargo to the Pocket When she does so you will keep a strict account of every thing delivered and you will receipt to the proper authority for them as prize property. There are but two persons on board the Watchman that are considered prisoners I believe, but, there is none there that has any business to quarrel with you and should they do so you will he justifiable in reporting them to the Commander of the Island & having them dealt with according to Law. I do not pTesume that the vessel Watchman is a prize only the cargo & when delivered lo you you will take charge of it as directed above.
