Some or· all of them, I fear have been in the mails lost and destroyed by the Creeks, tho' I hope lo gel the Two latter 6 7 & soon. I regret the l!oss or absence of any of your letters as you do not (nor can you) duplicate. under existing circumstances: your letters mighl have contained some orders for Lumber or Something else, which, of course we cannot conjecture. So we shaU have to wait for you lo reiterate anything of importance that Those communications may have contained, which please do. George Campbell Chilldress & James Hamilton are now at Washington, the only govmt. agents now Here. Austin, must be with you by this time, and Wharton & Archer soon. The two former gentlemen are pressing matters al Washington as fast as possible, toward recognition, under our information, and counsil from here. Col. Lewis, Paymaster General of the Army of Reserve, now here will leave tomor-row for Washington, to give the Commissioners some further information and ldeas, which Swartwout Stone myself & Lewis, have concocted here.-and also to throw his Weight into the Scale there. Congress adjourns on the 4th July proro. only one wee:k of the Session remains, still I hope there wiU be Lime lo get thm' the recognition hiU. This we pray. I hope will be accomplished. All the rest annexation &c will then be made Easy, between the Two Executives on Govt. of U.S. & Texas. Samuel Swartwout, St.one & myself were to have gone on to Washington, to aid &co-operate in the cause, but neither of us can go. within a day or two, But think we shall in two or three days, meanwhile Lewis goes on, with our views for the Govmt. & action of the Commissioners there. Samual Price Carson writes from Nashville & will probably not reach N. York as he speaks of returning Home again from there. Nothing further of James CoUinsworth that what you ~~ Lorenzo de Zavala inform me. Nor have I heard of his arrival al N. Orleans, or any where else in the U.States. I wish he was Ht Washington Now. He might contribute much to recognition and subsequent negotiations in referenee Lo
