money. - 'fhe latter lavishing: their praise upon evt~ry one. µ;1vmg orders to commence anew without delay, promising Millions mc:mwhilc nothing is cluing hereabouts, no· disposition (prepara- tion) is making here and we are on the eve of perishing of famine, in Mexico there is not a "Cnarlilla" to be had yea now more than never are they minus seven & an half reals to complete the Dollar. Some eight days since new was brot express from Mexico that several "Gritos'' had been made infavor of federalism in Puebla, Oajaca, and Guadnlajnra bul untill now force has stifled the Law, as the french would say, but by the last mail I received a new plan, a copy of which I send you with the notes which several officers of Rank wish lo be added lo the plan so that they may also pronounce, the plan thus corrected, has been sent to Mexico and we only await a reply to act upon il- l, of course desire lo see this plan realised so as at once lo conclude the maller of Texas - for I have no doubt thal an equitable adjustment of affairs could be made - many are already of opinion that Texas ought no longer to be subject to Mexico, but that it ought to establish there a Covmt. purely Republican, so that its influence & ideas may shed a ray of the inlightmenl of the present age over the poor & benighted Mexican Nation which is in so much need of it. It w-ill be much to your interests that a force of yours should approach Matamoros, addressing your proclamations lo these towns on Rio Norte offering them to support any pronounce- ment in favor of Federalism assuring them that ye are all brothers & that very soon all difficulties will cease, indeed so soon as the Laws Govern over despotism, you know full weU how to address your countrymen. It is necessary to take the best care of Santa Anna, he may yet be of much service to you either by making him pay at some future day a large sum for his ransom, or by throwing him if necessary upon the Coasts and cause a new or counter revolution, but he should be taken the best care of as well his health as that he does not escape. - 1l appears to me that the hour of Constitution has arrived for Texas
