A11u (who being prisoner had no londer any uuthorily) but in lieu of retreating, should have advanced againsl Lhe colonists beaten them and rescued their Presidc11 L General from his bonrlagc. - i\'lcanwhilc these reports were being circulated, every exprcs.s senL by Filisola for Mexico was detained here the dispatches intercepted opened and garbled and made anew lo smit their own vile views Lhe better lo effcct their plan & verily the Government deceived by force of repeated and a continued tissue of lies, actually conferred upon Urrea t'hc Lille and sent him his commission as commander in chief - under that of Commandant General lo Vital Fernendez - ordering al the same lime Filisola to deliver up his command, and proceed lo take the fresh air of Montcrrey.- Filisolas farewell upon leaving the army was truly affecting and in the course of a few days the remn,mt of the army arrived at this place notwithstanding the orders of Urrea lo Andrade to the conlrary and lo remain al Lhe Nueces- This remincnt in all and in all amounts in numbers to 3500 men - many of them sick, the Generals now here are Urrea, Andrade, Gaona, Mora, Amador, Tolsa, Wolf, all of them much disatisfied and all al open war with Urrea except Wolf who acts his Caller & Pimp, Lale bearer &c. and this fellow caused the detention and arrest of your commissioners here - he represents you all as a horde of Drunkards, without system, plan or forces- I have been present al several interviews between Andrade and other chiefs with Urrea, and this last mentioned has had to be silent to the charges brot against him by them for the infamous conduct he has observed towards Filisola for the Roberries committed by him - his want of pupularity & and the want of wisdom & talent he manifests in having taken upon himself the responsibility of the offices he has sought- You may conceive how very critical the situation of Urrea must be when I as.sure you that beyond the limits of the Division which he originally commanded from the beginning of the Campaign he does not order a Corporal & four soldiers to cross the Rio Grande without being disobeyed. I have conversed wilh many of the colonels some of the Generals and others and they uniformly and of one accord are loud in their complaints againsl Santa Anna, against the Government and against the whole world. - Never have I seen troops so completely demoralised. Urrea and the Govmt. continue to deceive, the first representing the Army to be in the best condition & spirits and desirous to return to the campaign and thM all that is wanting is
