f write merely to say that the Acting President of the Govt. of Mexico, Jose Justo Carro, has <lclcrmine<l lo disregard the Armistice agreed upon between Gcnl Houston and SL. Anna, and he has issued his proclamation declaring his intention lo prosecute the War against Texas imrncdialcly. Our Country, il seems by this publication, (which has been republished in Lhe Bulletin of this City), is Lo be invade<! by seventeen thousand Men. The prevailing opinion here is that Texas should loose no Lime in Making ample preparation to repel the expected invasion: And acting under this impression the Citizens of Texas who are here have joined in a recommendation lo Genl Hunt lo proceed immediately with his preparations to raise and organize his Division, as you ~lay see by the enclosed Copy. A reporl reached here today from Vera Cruz that Lhc Govt was nol able to raise the men ancl Money to Carry on another Campaign against us. I <lid not learr1 from what authorily this report emanated, but it is only necessary for us lo reflect how wofully the people of Texas have been lead nstray by such idle remours lo lead us at once to the conclusion that now is Lhe lime to prepare for action. I leave in the morning for Mobile, thence lo Claiborne, from whence I shall return with all possible despatch. Please Write Me Lo San Augustine immediately upon the receipt of this, and if in your opinion the return of the Archives had better be delayed I will act upon your advice.
