rorme<l the line of hallle within 200 yards of the enemy when they stood in good order to receive us we then marched up within good rifle shot our men and officers plensecl and cool and as brave as lion!; fireing then commenced from both sides our Col. then ordered Yankee doodle plaid and heal in double quick time and we ware commanded to charge and it appeared lo me that we war among them in an instant and it have clone your heart good to have seen them fall our cannons our muskets our rifles and pistols plaid it appeared to me the most delightful tune that ever I heard since the world commenced. I had first rate Rifle and about this time [ was using her sir with all of my might she run about 40 to the pound and shot first rate I took notice to some of the big yellow bellys when Betsy would bore a hole in them the Claret would gush out as large as a corn stalk one big fellow I remember who I shot in the neck and it appear that it had near cut his head off. 1 shot old Betsy 6 times and a large holster pistol one time in the 7 shots I no that I killed four that thing I no; as I above stated about my pistol l shot that fellow in the lert eye plain. It may appear strange lo you but no less strange than true it seemed lo do me more good at that time to shot them or a bayonet run through them than anything that I have ever yet seen and it appeared to be the prevailing feeling or sentiment. Well sir I must tell you that when we got so near them as to shake hands with them they could not bear that they appeared rather bashful al such a meeting as that and turned there backs upon us and the rest of their' way off about that time we ware slaying them like corn stalks this was an open field fight we joined complete victory over them in about 16 minutes. we took about 700 prisoners a large number of which was wounded or great number of which proved mortal we took all the officers excepting one Lt. Col. l Capt made there escape the monster Santa Anna who can have men taken out & murdered without a change of countenance or the least remorse of conscience after makeing a sollom and sacred treaty. Such conduct could not be expected from savage heathens much less by a nation who porte_nd to be enlightened civilised and christianised. But we have this great Santa Anna now a prisoner with 3 other of his generals wjth officers to the amount of about 30 there ware many officers killed. We had 6 men killed 2 died from there wounds we had ahout 25 men wounded most of which ware vary slight none mortal except the above mentioned two. the people are determined to kill Santa Anna and I expect with all his pdncipal officers. 1 told you the mexicans marched in 3 divisions we defeated Santa Annas division hostilitys
